No. 1 Duke rolls, Zags hold on in Maui

LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) Zion Williamson poked the ball free with a clear path to the basket, the crowd rising in anticipation before he even reached midcourt.

The voices in the Lahaina Civic Center rising with Duke's rim-wrecking freshman, Williamson launched through the air, head well above the rim as he threw down a windmill dunk and roars echoed off their ceiling.

Duke's soaring-and-scoring show hit paradise and it's showing no sign of slowing down.


Sun Devils top No. 15 Miss. St. in Vegas

LAS VEGAS (AP) As a freshman, Arizona State's Kimani Lawrence made three 3-pointers.

Monday night, the sophomore drained three from long range - part of a 22-point performance - including the game winner with 33 seconds, to lead the Sun Devils to a 72-67 victory over No. 15 Mississippi State in the heavyweight bracket of the MGM Main Event.


No. 8 Auburn edges Xavier in OT in Maui

LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) - Bryce Brown scored 26 points, Jared Harper added 25 and No. 8 Auburn outlasted Xavier 88-79 in overtime to open the Maui Invitational.

The Tigers (4-0) shot poorly from the perimeter early and had a hard time shaking the new-look Musketeers (2-2), missing badly on a shot to win it in regulation.


Kansas St. cruises to Paradise Jam title

ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands (AP) Dean Wade wanted nothing more than to win a regular-season tournament title for Kansas State coach Bruce Weber.

Wade helped the 12th-ranked Wildcats deliver, scoring 21 points as Kansas State defeated Missouri 82-67 Monday night in the championship game of the Paradise Jam tournament.


Little, Johnson lead UNC by St. Francis

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) Once seventh-ranked North Carolina started taking care of the basketball, the Tar Heels had no trouble taking care of Saint Francis of Pennsylvania.

Cameron Johnson scored 20 points, freshman Nassir Little added 19 and North Carolina beat Saint Francis 101-76 on Monday night in the on-campus round of the Las Vegas Invitational.


No. 6 Nevada cruises past Cal Baptist

RENO, Nev. (AP) Trey Porter thinks his adrenaline got the best of him during the first three games of the season.

"I'm a diabetic, so I got my blood sugar up a little bit," said Porter, who transferred to Nevada this season from Old Dominion. "It makes me kind of cranky. ... I was able to control my blood sugar (tonight). It definitely helped me out."


No. 16 Clemson tops Akron, goes to 4-0

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands (AP) Shelton Mitchell scored 22 points with four steals, Elijah Thomas had 15 points and 12 rebounds and No. 16 Clemson beat Akron 72-69 on Monday in the first game of the Cayman Islands Classic.

Marcquise Reed added 16 points for Clemson (4-0), which returns four starters from last season's Sweet 16 game. Sophomore Aamir Simms added 12 points to reach double figures for the fourth straight game after doing it just three times last season. Mitchell was 9 of 13 from the free-throw line compared to Akron's 15 attempts, and Thomas secured his 12th career double-double with 4:08 to play.


Kabengele scores 18 as FSU rips Canisius

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) Mfiondu Kabengele knew he was ready to make the jump from reserve to a major contributor this season.

The 6-foot-10 sophomore had a career night Monday, even doing it while coming off the bench.


Hill's 20 boards get No. 17 UCLA to 4-0

LOS ANGELES (AP) Jalen Hill's career night on the boards helped UCLA avoid a big upset.

Hill had 20 rebounds to lead UCLA to an 80-65 win over Presbyterian College on Monday night.


Huskers, Texas Tech in HOF Classic final

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Nebraska and Texas Tech are headed for an old-school Big 12 showdown in the Hall of Fame Classic.

The Huskers rolled to an 85-62 win over Missouri State in the first semifinal Monday night, and the Red Raiders roared back from a big hole for a 78-63 win over Southern California in the second, setting up the first meeting between the schools since they were in the same league.
